💬#02-discussions: High-quality discussions on animal advocacy
One core part of Hive is to cultivate high-quality discussions around farmed animal advocacy. In addition to the typical guidelines (be respectful, polite, empathetic), there are a few things to consider:
The topic at hand should be complex enough to warrant discussion and multiple perspectives. If there is a simple or straight-forward answer to your question, feel free to post it in #03-help-requests.
Make sure to include an explicit and ideally open-ended question at the top, bottom, or otherwise highlighted in your text.
Try to keep the initial message as short as necessary. Feel free to provide further context in the threads.
Only include at most one link preview (thumbnail), since the message could become very long otherwise, reducing the chance that others will engage.
Additionally, when engaging in discussions, please adhere to our discussion norms as listed in our community guidelines here.

Example Do’s ✅
“Why do we tend to look to divestment/boycott as the main strategy against factory farming? Veganism is just one strategy, but sometimes it feels like it is treated as the end goal and it becomes frustrating that the number of vegans doesn't budge year after year, but worse yet the amount of meat consumption goes up every year. I am thinking about this after reading this blog post Why Divestment Doesn't Work by Eric Mathison. I'm curious if anyone else has any thoughts about this. Are we as a movement making a strategic mistake and what (if anything) would need to change?”
This message provides context, initial reasoning, a short article for further reading and poses a complex, open-ended question.

Example Don’ts ❌
“When was the term “vegan” coined?”
This message posts a question, but there is not actually space for discussion, as there is a simple and straight forward answer. You are free to pose these types of questions in #03-help-requests!
“Here is an article that analyses various approaches to farmed animal advocacy, including historical data, case studies, and potential future trends: https://www.website.com/link/animal-advocacy-article”
This message, while certainly interesting and likely a great read, doesn’t actually pose a question, making it difficult for community members to identify what it is that the poster actually wants to discuss.

🙋#03-help-requests: Seek assistance or advice on specific issues (no donation calls please)
Our #03-help-requests channel is one of our most valuable spaces for collaboration and support. If you need help with anything, don’t hesitate to ask! However, there are a few notes and limits to consider:
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, we don’t allow donation asks anywhere on our Slack (here is why).
If you want to share a petition or boost a social media post, please use #x-amplify-allies.
Try to keep the initial message as short as necessary. Feel free to provide further context in the threads.
Only include at most one link preview (thumbnail), since the message could become very long otherwise, reducing the chance that others will engage.
We love seeing community members proactively offering their help! This includes community member-led fellowships/programs/courses as well as general offers of support in your various skills. The only thing to consider is that by default, we assume that any help offers are volunteered. Please explicitly indicate in your offer if you expect/require to be paid for your/their service in your message.
A channel for sharing resources and tools that could be useful for the work of other advocates (including the resources you or your organisation provides). To ask for help finding a resource, please use #03-help-requests channel.
For courses, fellowships and other programs that are human-led, please use #04-help-offered.
Feel free to promote online events that are relevant to farmed animal advocacy. Make sure to clarify the timezone and attach a link to the event. For local events, please use your local channel #r-[region] or #rc-[city].
